Mary E. Hopper, Ph.D. is dedicated to the research and development of innovative and effective ways to communicate knowledge through digital media. That has guided her through more than 20 years of involvement with a variety of forefront programs and projects. Her current focus is on the design and construction of powerful virtual knowledge environments. Her new work specifically focuses on combining bodies of knowledge from a variety of disciplines to form a single, cohesive description of how to design, build and manage compelling and effective virtual spaces.
 
Dr. Hopper's primary professional role at this time is serving as President of Knowledge Foundry. This is a small company that specializes in constructing virtual spaces in SecondLife. Prior to founding Knowledge Foundry, she served a Senior Lecturer for a master's level graduate program in Digital Media at Northeastern University. She was also an Assistant Professor at Lesley University in their national Technology in Education program. In that position, she supervised over 40 adjunct faculty who taught four of the most technically challenging courses offered by the program to K-12 teachers at 45 sites across the country. Before that she served as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT where she was Managing Editor of Media in Transition, the flagship project of the MIT Comparative Media Studies master's program.
 
Dr. Hopper is author of numerous articles addressing the multitude of content, technical and organizational issues involved in creating and sustaining effective projects in advanced computing environments, and she has also designed and taught graduate level courses across a wide range of disciplines. She has a Ph.D. in Educational Computing and Instructional Design (1993), M.S. in Educational Psychology with specializations in Educational Evaluation and Measurement (1989), and a B.A. in English, Education and Psychology (1985) all from Purdue University.
