Paul Kahn

Paul Kahn is the current Director of Brown University's Institute for Research in Information and Scholarship (IRIS)
and a founding partner of Dynamic Diagrams, Inc., a design firm specializing in the design of information graphics in both
electronic and print media. He received a bachelor's degree in English literature from Kenyon College, and has additional
education in computer science, graphic design and Chinese language. His research interests include the design and presentation
of digital information. He directed Isocrates, a project to deliver a Classical Greek database on CD ROM to researchers at Brown,
led the design team for InterBrowse, an application for searching citation databases from within Intermedia, and edited two
Intermedia publications with Julie Launhardt: Exploring the Moon and The Dickens Web. He has also been designer and production
editor for a number of electronic publications including Syllabus Builder (D. C. Heath) and SGML Tutorial (Electronic Book Technologies).
He served as coeditor with James Nyce for his most recent book From Memex to Hypertext: Vanevar Bush and the Mind's Machine (1991),
a collection of essays by and about Vanevar Bush.
