Institute for Research and Information Scholarship (IRIS, 1983-94) was an organization at Brown that was founded in the early 1980s to support both teaching and research in a university environment. The research at IRIS has centered around the development of computer based tools for use in the classroom and in pursuit of academic research at Brown. Among the projects developed by IRIS were Intermedia, The Scholar's Workstation, and the Educational Software Project. Of these projects, Intermedia was the focus of this research. (Hopper, 1993)
