I don't think that anyone is getting or looking for on-line counseling.
We are sharing though. There is a big difference. What is so threatening
to you and John about the personal element? Why do you want to put an end
to a conversation which others are enjoying being a part of? Why not just
disengage if the thread isn't what you want? Isn't that what you would
normally do? What is it about this one that you feel the need to change
or end it? Who are you protecting?

What is a learning organization if it doesn't accept that change is being
handled in very different ways by different folks. We are always afraid
to talk about what we are really feeling or thinking -- for example
argrys's left column right column tool. Unless of course it is backed by
research. We try to hide so much of who we really are from ourselves and
others because it is not acceptable.

Hey -- this life is a challenge. To me (from an amateur's viewpoint)
depression is separation from self and others. What if our mental models
about stiff upper lip, leave your emotions at home, be rational and
logical all of the time -- are all OLD BS? What if a real LO means that
we connect, empathize, accept emotion? If the answer is yes then this
thread is cutting edge for LO because people are saying this is where I
am. Not for the faint-hearted. But it is progress.

I suggest starting a different thread that looks at the broader issues and
leave this one alone. Although I doubt others will write in now that they
have been judged as wrong or naive for actually saying what they feel or
are experiencing.
