Replying to LO10989 --

Replying to Gary Scherling who writes in response to LO10983:

"As a society, we have lost our values. Our school systems often don't
teach values and morals (from our schools, exit religion... enter a moral
vacuum), right from wrong."

I believe this has hit the nail on the head. In fact, I was thinking this
very thing while reading the information re: clinical depression. I know
for me that, in order to get out of my 2 year depression, it was a
realization that I had lost focus on that which had been fundamental and
basic to me at one point in my life. Religion, morals, values - all of
those things which, I believe, make up who we really are. Once I was able
to make that determination, I had to develop a "plan" to get back to the
happy, decent individual I once was - and it's working.

Although it may sound very "Seven Habits"-ish, I truly believe that a
re-focus on living and teaching morals and values has to be our basic
foundation. Just like in any sport - you have to be exceptional in the
fundamentals before you can excel to greatness.
