New England Cottontail Photo Full disclosure: I did not do a DNA test, and New England Cottontails can't be reliably distinguished in the field from the more common Eastern Cottontail. There is a labelled stuffed New England Cottontail in the Harvard Museum of Natural History. I drew it but did not like the drawing as well as the drawing of this photo. The black marks between the ears of the stuffed N.E. cottontail look like the ones on the animal in this photo.
