Description of Genealogical Resources at the Boston Public Library's Microtext Department Map and Directory Collections City Directories CITY DIRECTORIES OF THE UNITED STATES COLLECTION LONDON DIRECTORIES FROM THE
GUILDHALL LIBRARY (1677-1855) These volumes include surrounding towns eventually incorporated into London. Disadvantages to this collection are few complete volumes for London itself, inconsistent sequence of years available, and inaccurate reel contents labeling by the microfilming company. MANILA CITY DIRECTORY A single reel of microfilm containing v.41 (1935-1936) of the Manila city directory published by C. W. Rosenstock. Maps AMERICAN MS MAPS IN BRITISH
REPOSITORIES, 1763-1783 Selected from map collections deposited with the Public Records Office, most maps were commissioned by British officials on both sides of the Atlantic to aid in colonial affairs in North America and the West Indies. The collection is more valuable to historians than to genealogists. LANDOWNERSHIP MAPS: A CHECKLIST
OF 19TH CENTURY UNITED STATES COUNTY MAPS IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS (book
and microfiche) For Massachusetts counties maps, Suffolk is not included. SANBORN FIRE INSURANCE MAPS Another excellent aid to genealogical research, this collection by Chadwyck‑Healey is a filming of the Sanborn Fire Insurance Company's maps available in the Library of Congress. Similar to city survey maps, they give fairly good details of an area in any given city or town. A guide book describing all states available at the Library of Congress is available; Microtext retains only the films for New England.
