(Apology again as I still feel uncomfortable with some of the strong words
I used earlier, Just call me Andrew)

Your concern is also my present exploration and discovery (I wouldn't call
it struggling). For a typical organization (it may be the same as yours),
I try to understand the current Restraining Forces as per Force Field
Diagram towards TEAMWORK. In summary there are some basic structures and
mechanisms in-build in most of the conventional management system i.e.
Individual Staff Performance System (where staff are 'judged' on his or
her performance -> promotion -> reward or otherwise), Institutionalized
Authority System (where the boss has more authority on expenditure etc.),
Compartmentalized Functions (like many faculties in a University)
etc..etc.

These Systems are not evil in themselves, but certainly reach a Limit to
Growth situation especially if the organization has higher Vision or
competition. But these Systems in many way go against TEAM participation.
It is a reality that we live in, as such we need much Creativity to
'slowly' overcoming them. In doing so the Change Agents FOCUS should be on
the Vision or Team Attributes that can be made emergent, NOT be dragged
down by the compensation or individual rewards issues. Start with a
leverage area, where a very small number can be won over, and slowly
increases the 'sphere of influence'. To look of a recipe type of formula
to be applied organization-wide so that every feel happy about the
compensation and reward and want to participate in Team project is an
illusive dream.

But the nucleus group of changing agents (like amoebae) should grow with
larger Vision, so as to be creative to find opportunity to emergent TEAM
Reward system, (not Individual Reward system), there are several such
scheme in practice in some organizations.

Getting too lengthy, we will discuss further after views from others.
