Engine Area - Where Things Go (3 of 3)

Engine Area (3 of 3)

Things That Go On Other Things

Pneumatic Fuel Pump - on Oil Cooler;
Oil Temperature Sensor and two plugs - on Oil Sump Tank;
Oil Pressure Sensor - on Engine near Oil Filter;
EGT - on Exhaust Pipes (each side);
CHT - on Each Side of Engine near Spark Plug

Note: the Oil Air Separator is no longer used with the HKS.
"The only time the oil should show near full is when the engine is cold. Otherwise, it should show at the 'add' mark. If you run it this way, you won't need the oil air separator."

(These three pages only show where/how to mount engine components. See upcoming sections on the Oil System, Fuel System and Wiring for full assemblies.)

Red Arrow: The Pneumatic Fuel Pump goes on Oil Cooler. In this photo we have it clamped to the oil cooler. Eventually, we bolted it down.

Yellow arrow: the Pulse Tube is on top of the pneumatic fuel pump.

Green arrow: The input and output fuel lines are on the bottom. The clear plastic tubing is for prototyping only. We replaced this with "Aeroquip" tubing. (See upcoming Fuel System section for all details)

Red Arrow: The Oil Temperature Sensor goes on the Oil Sump Tank.

Yellow Arrows: For the HKS Engine, we also needed 2 brass plugs on the Oil Sump Tank. We got these from the HKS dealer.

The Oil Pressure Sensor goes on Engine near Oil Filter

Yellow Arrow: we removed the black allen screw plug from the bolt.

Blue arrow: We then screwed the bolt onto the sensor and the whole sensor into the engine with white plumbing teflon tape.

Pink arrow: The wire to the multifuncion instrument on the panel will go here (see upcoming wiring sections).

The EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) sensors go into the exhaust pipe on each side.

It is positioned on the 'lee' side of the exhaust port. This means you drill the hole so the sensor is inserted front (cabin) to back (toward propeller).

The EGT sensor hole needs to be drilled 20 mm from the exhaust port flange.

You include the width of the flange (red arrow) in the 20 mm (blue arrow). You do NOT begin measuring inside the flange at the yellow arrow.

Red Arrow: The CHT (Cylinder Heat Temperature) sensors screw into the HKS engine on each side near the spark plug wires.

If the washers drop off the sensor, this is the orientation for putting them back in.
