Week Thirty Seven - The Wing Hoist

Week Thirty Seven - The Wing Hoist

While Joanne and I have an abundance of enthusiasm for building airplanes, one thing we don't have is an abundance of space to build'em in.

This section describes how we built a simple, yet rugged, hoist for our wing, so that we'll have more room to work on the fuselage and tail.

The hoist is made up of:

  • Four TigerPost Lalle columns (Home Depot)
  • Four close line cleats (Home Depot)
  • Four 3/8 inch pulleys (ACE Hardware)
  • About fourty feet of 3/8 inch poly-rope (Home Depot)
  • Some miscellaneous pieces of 2X4 and some muffler clamps I had hanging around.

This photo shows the top of one of the lalle columns.

I mounted the pully with a 3 x 2 1/2 x 3/8 lag bolt.

I'm sure the reinforcing 2x4 underneath the drilled 2x4 is redundant. But, what the heck.

One of the cleats, attached to a lalle column with a muffler clamp.

The wing, about one foot off the ground.

The wing about two feet off the ground.

Tah Dah ... The wing 5'-10" off the ground.
