This information used to appear on the 'What's New' page but, because it is no longer new but still is long, it has been moved to its own page.
February 5, 2001 -- Changes massive enough for me to claim this as the site's second edition.
- Changes in the supplementary material (unframed) section of the site:
- Simplified the home page and some other top level (unframed) pages
- Essays and informational pages added
- Changes in the exploration (framed) portion of the site:
- Added more help, allusion and "miscellaneous" pages.
- Added more supplementary texts (the ones Eliot refers us to or alludes to)
- Supplementary texts can be viewed in the original language and in a choice of English translations at the same time (depending on the availability of the texts)
- Many of my definitions give you a link to Dictionary.com to give you a more authoritative definition if you want.
- Many framed pages now offer links to other websites and Britannica.com articles. I've attempted to:
- Get a consistent presentation of links to external sites.
- Give each external link an identifying number to make it easy to go to the other websites of interest after a session rather than getting distracted during a session.
- Commentary was added to the framed portion of the site. Commentary consists of:
- Description's of Eliot's poetic methods
- Describing common views of The Waste Land
- My own thoughts on The Waste Land
- Changes appearing in both sections:
- Many more links were titled (some browsers display these as tool-tips)
- A seperate page containing a list of most links to other websites is available. Most links have:
- an identifying number so you may use a shorthand notation for writing down links you wish to explore later
- the URL printed out
- a short description of the linked page
- A seperate page containing a list of selected topics relating to The Waste Land. These consist of:
- Reason - The reason why the topic entry is being included. The reason may also contain links into the framed portion of the site.
- Google - Conducts a search engine query made for you.
- Columbia - A Columbia Encyclopedia article at Bartleby.com
- Britannica - A Britannica.com page showing links, books, on-line essays and a link to it's encylopedia article on the topic. You may need to be a subscriber to view the encylopedia article.
- Yahoo - Brings you to a Yahoo! listing of sites about the topic.
- DMOZ - Goes to a site listings similar to those of Yahoo!
