>There was an article in the current issue of "manager magazin" (German)
The article was entitled "Die Zukunft fest im Blick", and it was on pp.
152-155 of the February, 1997 issue of "manager magazin". PA Consulting
Group, a London outfit, surveyed 532 members of upper management in 15
countries for their views into the next millenium (sorry, they didn't give
the exact questions, but the study was entitled "Leading into the
Millenium").
The most important two factors for a company's success were seen to be
human capital, and corporate strategy and market changes (~26% votes for
each). As far as ways one can increase the value of employees in the
future, the leader by a small margin was the introduction of learning
organizations, followed by increasing flexibility in the work environment,
coupling of compensation to company business results, and the availability
of highly qualified managers. As for what increased the qualification of
managers, early passing along of leadership responsibility topped the
list, followed by early contact between top managers and new employees
early in their careers.
There were apparently differences by nationality. For example, the
concept of a learning organization was most emphasized by Italian,
Scandanavian, and Malaysian managers.

Bill
