I agree with Andrew. At least in the "west" our individualistic view of
just about everything has dictated that we must have leaders, that in turn
become like goods.
However, I must say, there are organizations that are moving towards a
different view of leadership. One that believes the success of the
organization is based on every body being a leader. Leadership that calls
for self determination and identification with the larger picture of the
organization. In this respect consistent with the ideas put forward by P.
Senge. I just happen to work with one such organization till last Dec.
when I decided to make a career change.
Furthermore, I have seen many books and articles on this subject over the
last few years. While I cannot offer any reference now, I know this
subject has been topic of study and publication on many reputable business
journals.
