One of the leadership trends I have noticed is movement to everybody
being a leader. I see this in my workplace and in the work I do with
groups. There is a new emphasis on self organization, which calls for
a new leadership of everyone on the team or in the group having to
step up and be a leader. In fact out of this, I have noticed a trend
toward there being no leader in the traditional sense of one person
showing the way. Often times we think of leaderless groups as being
lost without a rudder. But I think there would tremendous energy to
look at groups and how they function after realizing that there is no
leader, yet there is a need to make change happen and/or accomplish
something. I was recently in a group where we were all strong
personalities. Whenever one person tried to lead, the group would
generally not let it happen. In the end, we were successful as a
group because we moved ahead collaboratively, and in effect the group
became the leader. This was an interesting experience that I still
contemplating and trying to apply to other work I do.
