>Response to LO12428 Using Intranets For Org Learning

I am the organizational development professional for Motorola's
International Networks Division. We are just beginning to use our
corporate intranet to create virtual teams for "real time" collaboration
across geographical boundaries and for distant (on-line)
learning/training.

We are planning to include in our Web page links to such things as:

1. Current Projects List- An update on the status of all business projects
around the world.

2. Virtual Meeting Rooms- A place of collaboration for each virtual
project team to leverage the knowledge and skills from all over our
world-wide organization for problem-solving and decision-making.

3. Bulletin Board- To post upcoming events, announcements, special
requests, etc.

4. On-line Library- A repository for:
* Critical "need-to-know" information and articles on technology, business,
& operations.
* Guidelines for business processes such as due diligence, writing business
& marketing plans etc.
* Tools & Templates for business plans, job descriptions, organizational &
team effectiveness surveys, quality metrics etc.
* Actual examples/samples of the above to allow "cut & paste" or "reuse"
opportunity and avoid "recreating the wheel" syndrome.
* Training resources including both global & local, internal & external

5. On-line training tutorials in such things as:
* Use of internet
* Use of various collaborative tools
* How to build an effective virtual team
* Communications & teamwork skills
* Problem-solving & decision-making methods

6. Key Contacts Page including Corporate, Regional, Country and local contacts

7. Virtual Teamwork Ideas- A place where all of our virtual teams can
transfer and share what they have learned about virtual teamwork such as
tips, what worked, what didn't work, obstacles/problems & how solved etc.

8. Thankyou/Recognition Corner

Obviously, there is a tremendous potential here for collaboration, shared
learning, levaraging global talent in real time, and building/utilizing a
global learning data base. I'd like to keep this thread going and would
ask others to share their experience with intranets and virtual teams. It
would be of great help to me and my organization.

Thanks,
Gary Hobson
