This contradiction makes a lot of sense to me. Maybe an organization (the
same way as people) has more than one "personality" (or a personality with
many faces or roles). The "competitor" is one of these and altruism does
not apply to it. But an organization has other faces, for instance it may
engage in a community activity. In this case, altruism from a competitor
would not be impossible.
