Suggestions about e-mail as communication ignore some of my experiences.

First, I get 50-80 messages a day not counting those from the LO. In my
company, I hear that my experience is not unusual. At that level, I can't
absorb all of them, let alone answer all of them, or have a thoughtful
response. This is not really communication, nor does it encourage
communication.

Second, we have a public e-mail section, and there are a lot of useful
messages there. However, there are now over 100 regular messages there
every day, as well. Again, hard to sort through and glean the wheat from
the chaff.

Some of the new tools may cut through this. However, at this point,
e-mail does not contribute to my knowledge of the business.
