John O'Neill has made a valuable contribution to our understanding
regarding dialogue in cyberspace by distinguishing between the
"psychological" and the "anthropological" models of dialogue. I find the
labels chosen for this distinction distracting, and would probably be
happier with some other terminology (a request for suggestions)-- but I
feel like I know what John is talking about here, and it's really helpful
to me.
As I look back on conversational threads here, I find those which mimic
the placement of artifacts more satisfying than those which try to mimic
F2F conversation. It's an interesting lead on how to leverage electronic
conversation, and it suggests a connection between the development of
hyperlinks on the Web and the rapid growth of internet traffic.
