I'm participating in a virtual team. We are an ad hoc group of engineers
interested in improving how we engineer our information technology
solutions using "systems engineering" methods. We meet via conference
call every other week. Since we have no executive sponsorship for our
process improvement efforts, our near term objective is to develop a
business case. The group started with two members and through word of
mouth now counts seven representatives from all parts of the organization.
While it's too early to tell if we will be successful, I can attribute our
growth (and the fact that we are still meeting) to our very skilled
facilitator. She keeps us on track, by example sets the tone for our
communication styles, pushes for consensus and decisions, and collects and
distributes our history.
