Okay, Ivan. My wondering about the concept of guilt in Spanish came from
a conversation with my Spanish-speaking, Isle of Pines reared,
sister-in-law: Imagine, she said, a child at the dinner table. He or she
hits a glass of water with an elbow. The American mother says, "You
knocked your water on the floor." My (her) mother said, in effect, "The
water, which was on the table, is now on the floor." I guess I made too
broad an inference. Thanks.
