kid policy

There is not really a kid policy! You can bring kids, or not! In many cases I know your kids and would love to see them. If I don't know them, I would love to meet them. And kids who attend should bring something creative, too! Or you adults may prefer to treat this as a "night out" for yourselves.

The sad news is that there will not be special events for kids. I am only mentioning this because the best feature of Rob's birthday party last year was the special crafts for kids ages 2 through 12. The activities (organized by The Fun Factor of Newton) were right in the same room, and incredibly absorbing, and both kids and parents had a great time. Maybe the kids had a better time, because the parents were listening to a rant called "Death to WCOZ" and other crocque tapes (as funny outtakes are called in the radio business).

I almost did this again. Unfortunately, (1) this party will be larger, and (2) I need that area for the art show. So, kids are welcome, and there will be food suitable for them, but each family will have to be responsible for its own younger members' entertainment. Actually, based on observing my friends' kids (plus my friends in Junior Choir), infants and toddlers will want to stay with you anyway. And I remember starting to enjoy art museums and live music (etc.) when I was about 10. So the people who I worry about not having a good time are those in the 3 - 10 age range, who might be bored with a party that featured only adults walking around and looking at stuff and talking. On the other hand, if you know St. Mary's, you'll know that kids are basically welcome to everything, and we like it that way, so why should my party be different? I hope I've given you enough information to help you decide who to bring!

Remember those crafts! A whole-family craft sounds like a really fun idea. Maybe the 8 years olds wouldn't mind an art show if they were in it...
