Newton Lower Falls is just outside Route 128, bounded by Routes 30 and 16 and the Charles River which separates it from Wellesley. The church is five or ten minutes' (mostly) downhill walk from the
Riverside stop on the MBTA's Green Line (D cars). If you need directions
on the night of the party, we'll be answering the phone in the church
office (617-527-4769). This number can be given to babysitters, or you can
bring your
kids. From New York City, western Massachusetts, Connecticut, et cetera, take the Mass Pike to Route 128 South. Follow directions to approach from the North (below). If you are approaching Newton from the North, take Route 128 (95) South to exit 21B. (N.B. This is one of the first exits South of the Mass Pike.) The exit ramp forks; take the left hand fork (marked 21B) and then proceed (stay rightish after the fork) to a stoplight where the ramp meets Route 16. Turn RIGHT at this light, onto Route 16. Follow directions from ***. If you are approaching Newton from the South, take Route 128 (95) North to exit 21. The ramp rises and meets Route 16. Turn LEFT here. (There is no signal, so the turn may take some time.) As you cross over 128 on 16, you'll go through a stoplight. Follow directions from ***. If you are coming out from Boston, you can either take the Mass Pike to Route 128 South, or take Route 16 all the way out. Follow directions from ***. *** Once you are on Route 16 westbound, and have passed over 128, the next stoplight is Concord Street, just before 16 crosses the Charles into Wellesley. Turn RIGHT on Concord. The church will be on your right, two or three buildings up. You can p ark on both sides of the street here. +++++++++++ To come via MBTA, use the Riverside station. Walk from the station out to Grove Street (the way all the buses and cars are going). Once on Grove, turn right. Climb the steepish hill up Grove. At the top you'll pass the Holiday Inn and two entrances to 128. Use caution crossing 128 (it will be light on the way to the party; we can give rides back). From this point follow Grove as it meanders gently (mostly downhill) for four or five blocks until it dead-ends at Concord Street. Turn left to see our c hurchyard, with the church itself just beyond it. The parish hall is on the other side of the circular driveway. Thank you to MapBlast for several maps of this location. |
