6.2 The Educational Contexts of Advanced Courseware Projects
[Refer to Educational Goals column in Table 6.1.]
Educators have traditionally been careful to provide well thought out descriptions
of how and why they propose to use technology through their stated objectives, goals,
and extended rationales in order to avoid the possibility of providing inferior
educational experiences. These provide a fair degree of assurance that the
materials will be of high quality relative to traditional textbooks or other
materials and experiences they are designed to either supplement or replace.
Beyond the agreement about the importance of goals, educators have shown a
tendency to differentiate between various goals and approaches to using computers
based upon pedagogical differences. This does not reflect the balance between
commitments to discipline and learner which was found within the educational
contexts of successful courseware projects.
