Replying to LO12569 -

Suzanne - thank you for your long post, which is very insightful. However,
I came to this passage and thought, 'oh-oh!':

"As the teacher-counselor we can only stand in the darkness with a hand
out to help the individual cross their shadow line. WE can not produce
the learning or the challenges they must take. All challenges and
incidents worthy of consciousness change are produced internally by the
individual from their 'supra- consciousness.' "

Sometimes as mentors/coaches - in a teaching situation or in a managerial
situation in a company, in order to develop people's potential within
agreed guidelines, we may need to metaphorically stand in different
positions. In some cases it may be appropriate for us to stand behind the
individual. In others beside them. In others still in front of them.
Perhaps in others in the darkness, unseen but 'senseable'. It is our job
to respond intuitively to where the idividual needs us to be and be there
for them.
