I like what you say here. For years I have been making this point with
almost every group of managers I work with. THey have to understand
people, including themselves.
The word that I particulary like, in a sense echo yours, is using
'blindness'
If you do not understand others you are 'blind' I find managers identify
with this sense quite well.
