A Story :

A teacher asked a student in a class : "Have you LEARNED?"
The Student said "Yes, I have LEARNED!"
"Have you suffered PAIN?"
"No, I have not suffered PAIN?"
"Then, you have NOT really LEAENED. Maybe I should beat you up till
you cry pain as evidence of learning"

A totally ridiculous event. IMHO, I believe the FOCUS
is LEARNING towards a desired VISION, not on safe, unsafe,
pain, etc.

Pain is an integral part of the LEARNING PROCESS, but not
necessary an absolute prerequisite for LEARNING to take place.

I share Brock Vodden's feeling and experience in his description
of the dynamic of a large newsprint company with remark as follow:

>From my perspective, I learned that it is not always easy to create the

My own learning and experience teach me the following:

Belief in potential strength and energy in every person,
who will one day "see" his or her VISION and take up
a bold new step. Hence there is no need to spoon-feed
, make every step "safe" for him or her, but sensitive
to create opportunity for him or her to know
what next "little" step to try out.

Where is the leverage point? In the above case, the senior
manager who reacts with anger. If the manager can only take
a bicyle ride at this time, don't put him in roller-coaster
ride. Create opportunity for the manager to seek his or her
own VISION.
