Another book which deals exclusively with the informal organization is
called Managing with Power by Jeffrey Pfeffer which is rich with examples
from all sectors, public, private, and non-profit. While I believe some
of his guidelines around power tend to be more negative or machievelian
they seem to me to be right on when thinking about power in organizations.
How this links with the LO is to challenge the organization to make
resources available in an equitable way combined with strong hearted
leadership reduces the level of activity freezing politics.
I think it is a chicken and egg discussion to say which is responsible for
the main connections.
