I am a new comer to this list. Presently am a management consultant with
DMR Group Inc. in Calgary Canada.

For the last few days I have been reading posted "in progress" exchange of
ideas re organizations. Please forgive my presumptions for expressing my
opinions when I have not heard the entire story.

I think that if I start at the very begining then there is a less
potential of offending someone, but increase the potential of boring
others, all well let me start by saying that whenever we express our
opinion, I belive, we will always assume certain premises. Most of the
time these assumptions which we "hold to be self-evident - since we seldom
state them" are based on self experiences or sometimes on other observed
events ei books, anedocts, etc.

The problem that this model reveals is that we all have our own
experiences and the integration of all these form our personality. Yes we
do have something in common, but are we justified to say that my percetion
of 'Yellow' produces the same sensations on to everyone?

When we learn, I beleive, we must modify the effects of our experiences.
This is caused by augmenting our repertoir of experiences of modify some
others that we adoped. Early on I adopted the view that an onganization is
analogous to an organism with many parts ie organs, The organization will
work harmoniously if all its organs/ componets have a harmonious
relationship. In the organization the organs are its people doing business
processes! If we follow this premise a bit further then if we want to have
an organization to adapt (the same as learning) we have to influence the
collective experiences of its ( people ) Human Resources.

My second premise is that in a 'learning organization' change is a verb
not a noun. May professionals think of change as the end result! This I
beleive may be the cause of many misunderstandings. I found that if I talk
about the method and the toold to get us somewhere, then I found the
projects to be more harmonious

My third premise is that simplification without diluting is most
effective. To me an organizaiton is a group of people that has a purpose.
The organization has three sine-qua-non elements 1- people, 2- money, 3 -
information. without one of these the organization cannot be effective.

My first question: I would like your opinion on - always from the
learning organization perspective - the difference between Benefit and
Value
