When I say we...
I mean me and many others I work and interact with... it was not my
intention to point a finger in any other direction but to share
responsibility for something which I see as a tendency in myself. I
struggle not to break things into parts and frequently have to remind
myself or be reminded to synthesise and hold it all together..
I don't have any data on how many people break things into parts, nor for
that matter any data on how many people do not, or if it is a cultural
tendency. I just know that I, and most people I work with, do it
frequently....
So my questions were rhetorical..
I break things into parts, and or arrange them into linear sequences!!
Why do I do that??
Partly because I don't want to feel confused, partly because it is the way
I was taught to make sense out of things. Also I wonder if it because so
many of the mediums I work with are linear in nature - books etc... which
require sections and parts and chapters...
I break things into parts so that I can deal with them one at a time -
when dealing with them all at once feels unmanageable.
I section things off so that I can see differences and similarities,
identify polarities, then I struggle to put it all back together again...
There are probably other reasons why I do it ... can anyone help me to
figure it out ... in understanding that I do it may be the clues to
finding other options...
