Kate:

My experience with brainwriting is the recording (in written form) of
one's thoughts in the group environment ...free from the influence of
others. These thoughts are then shared with the group and boarded so that
all can "ponder". Then, in the next round, these intial thoughts are
built upon by recording (in writing) and once again boarded so that all
can see.

Much like brainstorming...but done in written form...very useful for
groups were people may be heavily influenced by others in the group (which
would make brainstorming less effective)!
