Replying to LO9225 --

In the middle of a post by Clyde Howell, Johanna Rothman parenthetically
commented:

As one who believes that matters of the spirit cannot be spoken, I have
deep sympathy for Johanna's expression. I was an early contributor to this
thread, feeding back some impressions of this list in terms of Christian
thought, and being very careful to label my comments with a smiley face :-)

[Thanks, Jack! -- JR]

I never expected the thread to run so long, or to probe so deep. But
despite my misgivings about some of the directions this thread has taken, I
am delighted that it has elicited comment from a large number of
participants who were previously silent, and helped me develop a deeper
sense of the range of knowledge, opinion, and feelings among this list's
readers.

Like Johanna, I am concerned about the potential for conflict contained in
this thread, and I join her in asking all writers to the list to exercise
great care in selecting the language used to express their religious
beliefs.
