Being hopelessly self-absorbed is a good thing. As the saying goes, "Lead, follow
or get out of the way." Passionate, self-absorbed people are never in the way.

Mentors are wonderful. Part of the function of this LO listserv is mentorship. I
have been subscribed a month and I already have folders in my mail program for several
persons whose comments are always thought provoking. Cybermentorship ain't perfekt but
it has aided my process immensely.

Your comment: "My guess is that my mentor takes pride in my development, and benefits
directly from it in the work we do together."

To which I reply: Most definitely. Another old adage goes something like "Give a man a
fish and he is not hungry today. Teach him to fish and he is hungry no longer."
Mentors, trainers and consultants draw their inspiration and vitality from facilitating
changes which last. Besides someone else usually ends up cleaning the fish.
