Alexander asks for material on strategy related to non;linearity and
complexity as well as backcasting. Henley Management School via the Long
Range Planning Journal published by Pergammon Press has published an
article of mine on this entitled "Foresight".

I use the term "structure of the future" to build on Axelrod's happy
phrase "the shadow of the future" which relates strategy and foresight to
structural consideration of past and present.

Complexity and emergence suggest that, while not predictable in detail,
each moment has emerged from the interplay of previous moments. Thinking
in this way provides instructive ways to organise - not necessarily useful
ways of prediction.
