Reminds me of how Gordon Dreyden talks about early learning in his
book, The Learning Revolution. Consider the way we take children, who
are actively learning for the first 4-5 years of their lives, take
them out of that actively learning environment where they are
experiencing and growing at probably the most rapid period of their
life, and then we put them in a classroom, stick them in a chair at a
desk and expect them to sit down, listen to a teacher and behave!

The other day I caught a segment of a discussion with Gordon Dreyden
about how children under the age of five are at a genius level. It is
the conditioning by environment, people saying 'NO!' and limiting
their own ability to explore, that children start closing off their
own abilities. If anyone's interested, I'll try to look up the
authors name, book etc who's done some of the studies on this.
