Information overload

Michael McMaster writes

"We don't have information overload - by definition of information - we
have data overload. Or merely noise."

What definition of INFORMATION makes 'information overload' an oxymoron?

For example, what you say and write, Michael, is valuable information that
can enhance my knowledge. Much of it is in your books, your web site, your
talks, your many comments to this list, etc. But I do not have time to read
or hear all that is available. In my view all that is 'information' rather
than data, but it contributes to my potential information overload.

Again, as was pointed out in the thread on lurking, if ALL the readers of
learning-org were to post even a simple message every month, we would have
a Tragedy of the Commons. Reading learning-org, which is already a
time-consuming burden and therefore less fun than before, would become
unreadable.
