Is the question here one of "formality" or is it something else?
I think that the thing that brings danger is "the authorised" and the
power structures that go with it.
Formality implies explicit and therefore bringing it to what works
implicitly may do damage to the original - but that is a distinct
question from the danger of the authorised.
