Here is one suggestion to get started:

Chris Argyris, "Good Communication that Blocks Learning," Harvard Business
Review, July-August 1994, pp. 77-85.

Basic premise: courtesy and protocol can block people from being honest
with each other and sharing the information and insights needed to
progress and learn.
