Replying to LO4308 --

Gary,

I disagree. First, my boss already knows that failure leads to success
_some_ of the time. However, failure does not always and inevitably lead
to success. In a highly competitive environment, prudent behavior will
lead one to balance the wins with the losses to some extent. That's all I
am doing. After all, a million here and a million there can begin to add
up unless there are some offsets. As I said in an erlier note, less than
4 years separates a healthy company from bankruptcy these days. The
stories about 'betting the company' are memorable precisely because there
are so few of them.

On the other hand, we should not be afraid of making 10,000 mistakes if we
can justify it _and_ we can afford it. Edison had the money, or he would
have never made the second mistake, let alone the 10,000th.
