There will always be conferences and training that can only be done
outside the office or company. In those cases, another method of
'bringing home' the training is required.
Whenever a company pays for outside training, I now expect the
attendees to 'present' their discoveries back to the company in two
forms:
1) A written overview, and
2) An oral presentation to staff.
This provides a method to 'bring home' the training, and also ensures
the attendee learns differently. Instead of listening to learn, they
start listening to teach. This is a much more powerful form of
learning, and ensures the company and the individual gets the value
from the training.
We do run into the challenge of some people very uncomfortable with
giving presentations, but as long as this is discussed, we find
alternative methods to 'present' his learnings.
Training is already a 'regular' part of peoples jobs. The ones who
aren't practicing it for themselves are ending up on the unemployment
line. There's still a lot of people who haven't recognized the need
for continuous lifelong learning, but this is slowly changing.

you a fortune.' Jim Rohn
