One of our projects this year is to develop a mentorship program for our
new support staff employees. This program is to be more than orientation
to our organization but we are not sure exactly what should be included.
We are in our second year of a faculty mentorship process...that was
easier because of the shared emphasis on instruction.
Have any of you been involved in a mentoring effort? We'd be interested in
any information you could share with us. What worked, what didn't, is it
mandatory, how do you select mentors, do the mentors/mentees get release
time, what topics are they expected to cover, etc.
We are looking at some form of this for our new management employees also.
While my main interest is in the support staff piece, we would like to
hear from anyone who has had experience in the faculty, support staff or
management areas of a mentorship process. If you know of any areas I
could look at on the net, please advise. Thanks.
