The definitions that I use ... (I think that I got them from a book called
"Managing the Training Enterprise" by Manuel London. Do not have the book
near so I can not give more info on the book):

Training is:
1) learning focused on the employees' present job,
2) aimed at improving the skills or providing the knowledge currently
required or useful to the employee,
3) not easily transferable (job specific; eg. C programming),
4) over a short time period,
5) task oriented.

Education is:
1) preparing to deal with the unknown,
2) learning basic principles and constructs that can be applied
to synthesize information, extract relevant data, make
judgements, and take action,
3) learning focused on a future job,
4) easily transferable,
5) over long time period (eg. Degree, Diploma, ...)

Development is:
1) learning that is not job focused
2) long-term personal and professional growth of the individual
A development program may consist of training courses, workshops,
discussion groups, and special assignments and job experiences.

Hope that this helps.

Jack
