A couple of weeks ago, I indicated that we were previewing the Senge
Personal Mastery video from ChartHouse Int'l Learning in Minnesota. I
have seen the video a few times and offer the following for your
consideration and potential dialogue. Thanks for your interest.
--the video is 7 minutes and 2 seconds in length
--the entire focus is on vision, soul, caring, interest, passion - all resulting
in a superior product - a violin - Antonio Stradivari being the symbol (or
metaphor?) for what passion for what we do can result in
--the music and visuals are wonderful and lovely
--it is very inspiring
--I'm a little dissappointed in a couple of things: there is an opportunity to
illustrate (in the violin making example) that it is the craftsmanship,
design, wood, varnish, etc. etc. that all connect and relate and interrelate
and dynamically involve and resonate with one another that creates an
environment within which "sound" can eminate. (Stradivari also crafted
other instruments besides violins which also might have been worth a
note) This opportunity is not used; instead, the focus is on the greatness
of the soul of the craftsman, which while necessary, can only become
manifest in the application of that soul coupled with and connected to
and relationshiped with everything else. I would have like to see the
metaphor extended to the violin being the environment in which the
violinist can make the music with the violin. (just as one
example....actually many come to mind). So, that the learning
organization is the environment within which we can flourish with ideas
and application of our souls and crafts, and whatever else, that result in
this product....no matter what it happens to be.

I have some concern that an opportunity is missed to make a link and that
is can easily become another example of linear thinking. I talked with
ChartHouse about this and suggested that they provide a link and help us
allow potential "bandwagon joiners" off the hook from their/our linear
thinking of the past generations. It is not so much asking folks to bring
soul to work....it is, rather, acknowledging that we do it anyway...so
why not look at what it is that we are bringing and seeing how it relates
to the overall system of our organization....mission, vision, and all....

Perhaps I would spend more than $395 if the tape would have been a bit
more focussed on connections and relationships and "quantum-ness" - the
long fix vs. the quick fix.... being breathless rather than out of breath.

So, that, in part, is my read. I welcome others to dialogue with me -
please? Thanks....it is good to be back on the list. Myrna
