Stephen,
Your ideas that the language of war reflects our mental model and hence
our actions is well stated. Another aspect of war is the winner take all
mindset described by John Petrillo of AT&T describing the software
industry "If somebody starts out too early trying to get greedy, the whole
thing collapses and that's criminal." A long term, sustainable strategy
might be to encourage new products which will make people want to use more
technology, rather than trying to compete with every new idea. He didn't
mention Microsoft by name.
