I'm one of the new subscribers to the learning-org forum and after several
days of reading, thought it was time to introduce myself. My name is
Judy Shepard and I work in the department which supports the engineering
workstations at Ford Motor Company. I learned of this group when I attended
a meeting where the principles of Peter Senge's book "The Fifth Discipline"
were discussed. One of our new vehicle teams has used that approach to
re-engineer the processes used to design the vehicle.

As Ford moves toward a global strategy, all employees are being asked to
re-think the processes used and to eliminate unnecessary processes. My
department's job is to assist the engineering community by providing them
with the tools required to do this. As we try to commonize the various
processes used, I can see where applying "The Fifth Discipline" principles
will help those involved to work together to come up with the best approach
for everyone and hopefully, everyone will understand why the particular
approach was chosen and be able to convince others that it is best for them.
The old way of "doing business as usual" just doesn't work anymore.

My main purpose in joining this forum is to get a better understanding of
what organizational learning is and how I can apply it to my job. Since
I'm very new to all this, I'll probably stay in the background and simply
read the articles until I feel a bit more comfortable with the subject.
