GORGEOUS MICROSCOPE

A fine 19th Century lacquered brass microscope by Powell & Lealand, 170 Euston Road, London. The instrument is signed in script and dated 1873 just below the fine focus adjustment. This fine No.3 tripod stand instrument is from, in many people's eyes, the best 19th century microscope manufacturer. It comes complete with a finely figured mahogany case with lock and key and a mahogany case of accessories, also with lock and key, which fits inside the main case. The instrument is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. The mechanical stage uses the Turrel principal with lateral and horizontal adjustment and rotating top plate; sub stage centering on the optical axis is achieved by adjusting two pinions, which each move the sub stage assembly in an arc.
