Photo by David Friend Productions, San Diego, California
American, "Patented by H. Williamson, New York, Dec. 3, 1867," and signed on the globe "IMPROVEMENT IN CONCENTRIC CELESTIAL & TERRESTRIAL GLOBES" and "Sold by Harper & Brothers, Franklin Square, N.Y." and signed on one of the equatorial planes "G.C. WESSMANN, NEW YORK, MAKER." The 6" diameter paper-gored globe is mounted on a brass polar axis rod in a full polar ring & a degree half circle, with 2 wide graduated brass equatorial half circles mounted on either side of the polar ring, inside a 12" diameter 2-piece glass sphere, all in a 14" diameter brass supporting ring, on a very heavy ornate cast iron tripod base. The terrestrial globe is in very good overall condition, with a few minor worn spots; the 2-piece glass sphere is a well-made modern replacement (with no celestial features painted on it); the base and stand are in very good overall condition. This fine early American-made concentric celestial & terrestrial globe is an extremely striking display piece.
