TWIN SLIDE SINGLE CYLINDER STEAM ENGINE
A finely engineered working model built by J B Douglas to a late 19th Century Tuxford's Double Side Rod Engine design. The design is a cross between a Table engine and an Oscillating engine with the cylinder being placed under the table.
The piston rod drives an overhead crossbeam which has connecting rods dropping down to two cross slides, from the cross slide a second set of connecting rods run to the crank shaft. The arrangement makes for a compact engine with the elegant long rods of a Table engine.
The engine is mounted on an oak stand and contains a throttle valve for speed control when running on air or steam.
