Well, today's radio listening was almost as fun as Friday's. All Things Considered featured a story by NPR's Richard Harris on Lesbian Ear Clicking. A new study from the University of Texas reveals a very unusual difference between heterosexual and homosexual women: a difference in a phenomenon known as "ear clicking." It occurs in all humans and at least one other species. The inner ear emits sounds of its own - clicking - in response to loud noises. A team of scientists at the University of Texas has found that ear clicking differs between men and women and in women according to sexual orientation. The lesbian ear clicking actually sounds different from the other women's ear clicking and from the men's - an ear clicking all our own. The study appears in the current issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

I wonder if there's any way to test for this? Imagine, if you could just discreetly transmit sounds into her ear and listen for the response... think how many crushes on straight women we could avoid!
