I am definitely not making use of the unbelievably nice spring day we're having. I did go out for coffee and a bagel but did not do any outdoor activities. Despite the fact that it's warm and sunny, it is quite windy - like one of those Winnie the Pooh blustery days. That's not an excuse for not doing outdoor stuff though.

I slept until nearly noon. I was up late last night but not that late. When I got home from an evening in Cambridge with Mark , I spent a long time on the phone with Nancy. Her cat, Emily, has developed a thyroid problem and is losing weight. Supposedly this is common in older cats. The vet recommended a radiation procedure that takes three days and the nearest place to have it done is in Connecticut. The alternative is pills three times a day - a little tough given Nancy's work and commute schedule. I gotta check to see if there's someplace in Boston that can do the radiation thing if that's what she decides to do. I can't believe we'd have to go to Connecticut. So, anyway we were both up late discussing this.

I forgot to mention in yesterday's entry that Slinky has finally gone to live with Roberta. We all knew eventually Roberta would give in and take him. Slinky would have no one else. Slinky is probably the happiest cat in Newburyport right now.

So here I am with the beautiful afternoon racing by and I can 't seem to use it to produce a coherent journal entry either.

The guilt over wasting a nice day is really bothering me. I feel like I can't justify staying in and writing, but I also can't justify going out and playing. I know, I should just never write or browse the web or touch the computer ever again unless I get a laptop I can use outside in all weather. I feel like I have to be outside in bad weather to prove that all people back east are not ground moles and I feel like I have to be outside in good weather because it's the last good weather we're ever going to have. So I can't win either way.

This winter has been so weird with its murky skies and warm temperatures and winds from odd directions and early snows and early spring.... and .... whatever...

Heard the pundits talking about the high tech labor shortage on the radio again. This time they mentioned we don't have enough electrical engineering graduates. Since when is there a shortage of hardware dudes? I thought the shortage was of software people. Later I heard the same report, but it had been edited to remove the stats about electrical engineering grads and replace it with stats about computer science grads. Then on tv I saw a thing about this year's college recruiting season and how the job market is so good that even liberal arts graduates were getting offers of $50,000 a year. $50,000? Right out of college? What are those jobs? Sign me up! Well, as long as the job is outdoors, has flexible hours, does not cause suffering to any sentient being...

I'm three quarters of the way through The Search for the Pink-Headed Duck and no pink-headed duck has appeared yet. Maybe it really is extinct.
