the lost dayWell, there hasn't really been a 16th of October - international date line and all. I've had breakfast twice and lunch once, but no dinner. I think I slept a few hours between Chicago and Seattle. When I got off the plane at New Chitose Airport I heard a woman say: "The last time I saw Hokkaido, it was white." Well, there's no snow on the ground here yet, nor the appallingly clear sky or the ice age that Murakami described. I did have to put on my sweatshirt though. I remember checking in at the Hotel Nikko in Chitose. The next thing I knew it was the 17th.
